8/8/25
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Good Morning,
We wanted to update you regarding our high school band and vocal programs. Today, we were notified that IKM-Manning will not be able to accommodate our band students for participation this year. Including our students would shift their classification from 1A to 2A, which, given the number of students and the timing, is not a feasible option.
We have reached out to several area schools in search of a partnership but have not yet secured one. In addition, we’ve contacted retired music educators and other teachers who might be willing to return, but unfortunately, we have not had success so far. For example, Carroll is already utilizing two retired teachers to support their own program and is unable to assist us.
The sharing of a High School vocal program is just not feasible. With the numbers involved and the scheduling of core classes, it does not make sharing possible. The sharing of a High School vocal program would require the use of multiple class periods. Nearby districts are unable to assist, particularly with choir, due to their own scheduling constraints and student numbers which, unfortunately, we anticipated.
We are open to any ideas or connections you may have, as we firmly believe our fine arts program is a vital part of the student experience. Although not ideal, we are looking into virtual options as well. It is important to note that there are numerous unfilled vocal and band positions across the state. The teacher shortage is a real and pressing issue, even if it doesn’t always receive the attention it deserves.
We will continue working to find a solution and will keep you informed with any updates.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mr. Miller
